Call of Duty: Ghosts - Cheapest Launch Day Prices, Special Offers & Promotions [UK Summary]

Just in case you didn't know, it's that time of the year when a new Call of Duty title is launched and this time around it's Ghosts. The chances are if you're reading this article, you already know the purpose of it but for those that might not have purchased a CoD title at launch, basically every year there is usually one or two deals that certain retailers have on the game. Of course there is no guarantee that there will be any special offers or money saving deals at all but if you're planning to get a copy on the launch day anyway, there's no harm in keeping an eye out. Okay, so now we're all up to speed on what this article is about, let's get down to business, below you will find a list of the best prices that I've seen so far. Please not that while all the following prices are correct at the time of posting, they may (and most probably will) change as the day goes on but I will try my best to keep the list up to speed.

Uncharted 3 Two Year Anniversary Multiplayer Patch and Free Maps For Everyone!

Hey readers, first off, apologies for not posting much in the last couple months, I've been rather busy with other stuff and to be honest, there hasn't been much news for me to talk about. That''ll probably change in the coming weeks, what with Call of Duty: Ghosts launching tomorrow and various other titles of interest starting to pick up production pace. Anyway, down to business, as you may or may not have realised, last week was the two year anniversary of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (where has the time gone eh?) and to celebrate, the crew over at Naughty Dog have released a big patch for multiplayer and at the same time, made all multiplayer maps available to everyone for free! In addition to all that, they've also released one brand new map 'Dry Docks' (again, free). For those who avidly followed teaser trailers before the games release, you might recall the name, well it was a map that was going to be included in the retail version but was actually cut for whatever reason before launch. Naughty Dog released a short video to announce all the maps becoming available for free, which I've embedded below for you to check out. As well as the video, I've also included the full list of changes that come into affect with the patch, most of them are warmly welcomed but there are a couple that raises eyebrows and as per usual I'll discuss this at the end of the article in my review section, enjoy.

Call of Duty: Ghosts - New Campaign Trailer Released [Video Inside]

A short while ago Infinity Ward released a brand new campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts and what a trailer it is! In the initial reveal trailer a couple months ago we were told very little about how the US was crippled and eventually invaded by foreign nations, well this trailer serves to address some of those questions by providing a bit more background information, not just the attack itself but also the characters we'll be taking control of. In addition to this, the trailer highlights several more potential story missions, so if you're trying to avoid any and all spoilers, however minor, you might want to give the trailer a miss. However, for those that want to lap up everything and anything, I've embedded the video below for your viewing pleasure:

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Patch 1.14 Released (Full Details Inside)

Yesterday Treyarch released multiplayer patch 1.14 for Black Ops 2 (PS3 and Xbox 360), it wasn't a very long list of changes and to be honest, most of the issues I didn't even know were occurring lol but I'm glad they're keeping their eyes on the ball and making sure everything is ship shape. There's handful of minor multiplayer glitches that have been nullified but the rest of the changes relate to the various zombies maps. I've posted the entire list below for your viewing pleasure:

PS3 Game Update (1.14) Notes: Aug. 22, 2013

Multiplayer Issues Addressed

  • Fixed an issue which caused strafe and backwards movement speeds to be slower than intended in certain circumstances.
  • Addressed an issue where Players were able to copy other Players’ emblems.
  • Fixed an issue where throwing down and picking up equipment (such as the Bouncing Betty) for a long period of time would cause those items to become invisible when thrown.

PlayStation 4 Launch Dates Officially Announced by Sony

Late last night Sony made the first move in announcing launch date details for the next generation of gaming consoles, it's been common knowledge for sometime that both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One would be on sale in the run up to Christmas of this year but until now, neither has provided a concrete date. Sony have stated that the PS4 will go on sale from the 15th November in North America and from the 29th November in Europe, these are currently the only two dates confirmed but I assume in the coming months, we'll get more details for other countries/continents.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - New 'Origins' Zombie Map Cinematic Cutscene Teaser Released [Trailer Inside]

Yesterday a new Black Ops 2 trailer went up on the Call of Duty YouTube channel, it's a short cinematic intro for the up coming Apocalypse DLC (map pack 4) and gives us a sneak peak at the new Zombies map, 'Origins'. I could describe the contents to you but I imagine you'd enjoy it more by actually watching it, so I've embedded it below for your viewing pleasure:

Call of Duty: Ghosts - Collector's Editions (Prestige & Hardened) Revealed [Trailer Inside]

As you might've heard by now, Call of Duty: Ghosts had it's multiplayer reveal event last night (if you missed it and want to catch up, you can do so by going here) and towards the end of it, we were given a first look at the collectors editions of this years title. Fans of collector editions will recall that Modern Warfare 3 only had Hardened editions on sale and did not offer a Prestige edition, well with Ghosts, the Prestige edition makes a return and instead of a novel toy that previous CoD titles offered, they're including a pretty cool gadget. You can check out the full contents of a Prestige edition for yourself in the image above (you can click the image to get an enlarge version) but just in case you're having trouble identifying what's what, I'll list the items included. Note that the Hardened editions comes with everything the Prestige edition does, minus the gadget/toy and is therefore the cheaper of the two collector editions (both can be pre-ordered as of today).

Call of Duty: Ghosts - Multiplayer Reveal [Trailer and Full Live Stream Event Video Inside]

It's that time of the year again, when the gaming world gets a teaser of what the next Call of Duty multiplayer will be like and we start to discover the new additions/changes that we'll soon all need to get to grips with. In some ways I like to think that this years CoD is a little bit special, not only will it be the first offering for the next generation of consoles but it's also a new series and potentially the last CoD title that many of us will play on our current consoles. Anyway enough sentimental twaddle, earlier this evening Activision hosted a special live streaming event that showcased what Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer has to offer and as per usual it was started off with the customary reveal trailer. I've embedded both the multiplayer reveal trailer and the full reveal event separately below, so that if you're not interested in the watching the full stream, you don't have to waste time loading it. However, if you are planning to watch the full stream, note that the reveal trailer is shown in it, so there's no need for you to load up both videos.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Apocalypse DLC (Map Pack 4) Coming 27th August [Trailer Inside]

As summer draws to a close, we get ever nearer to the end of the Black Ops 2 cycle but just as we're all starting to get caught up in the hype of a new Call of Duty title, Treyarch have announced the fourth and final DLC pack of the current game. Titled as 'Apocalypse', this last DLC drop consists of, as per usual, four multiplayer maps (Pod, Frost, Take Off and Dig) and another brand new Zombies adventure, named 'Origins'. Now, I don't usually get excited for DLC drops but I must admit that Treyarch have definitely peaked my interest with this final set. I'm not talking soo much about the multiplayer maps, which by the way contain only two new maps this time, as Take Off and Dig are remakes of fan favourites from past titles; Stadium from Black Ops 1 and Courtyard from World at War (respectively). More rather the new Zombies map, which is rumoured to be the final chapter (figuratively speaking) of the existing Zombies storyline, where we go back in time to era of World War 1 and find out exactly how the saga began. I do talk a bit more about the trailer further down (mainly Zombies related) but if you'd rather watch it for yourself (which I highly recommend you do), you can find it embedded below for your convenience.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Vengeance DLC (Map Pack 3) Now Out For PS3 [Trailer Inside]

First off happy first of August everyone and now down to business, as you might've seen in an article from last month, Black Ops 2 released it's third DLC pack titled 'Vengeance', which features four new multiplayer maps and one new Zombies adventure. The four multiplayer maps are called: Cove, Detour, Rush and Uplink (a remake of the Black Ops favourite Summit) and the Zombies map is named 'Buried'. As per usual it was out first for Xbox 360 but now the one month exclusivity period is over, it's now available for download on the PS3.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Patch 1.13 Released (Full Details Inside)

A short while ago patch 1.13 went live for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, this title update brings mix of things including some multiplayer weapon nerfs and the obligatory exploit fixes for Zombies. I should say that while the patch notes that cover both consoles might be quite short, the list for the Xbox 360 is a fair bit longer, due to the fact that the latest Zombies map 'Buried' (not yet out for PS3) had a lot of things tinkered with. I've decided not to added the changes made to 'Buried' because they are all to do with fixing glitches and exploits, which I assume will already be programmed when the map hits the PSN store next month. You can view the list that covers both consoles below:

PS3 Game Update (1.13) Notes: Jul. 23, 2013

New Features

  • Season Pass holders will now be reminded to download Season Pass content which they haven’t previously downloaded.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 Gets "Soft Launch" in Australia and New Zealand

A couple weeks back I wrote a short article with some news regarding the delayed launch of Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time and today I have another small update to share with you. A few hours ago, PopCap tweeted a link to one of their blog posts, which said that PvZ2 was getting an early release in New Zealand and Australia and that it was being treated as a "soft launch". Just in case you don't know what a soft launch is, basically it's when a product is released or a new business opened on a small scale, the purpose of this is to ensure that the product/business is fully functional/operational for when it officially launches/opens for everyone.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Patch 1.12 Released (Full Details Inside)

Earlier today patch 1.12 for Black Ops 2 went live for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, it's not a particularly long list compared to previous updates but I have a feeling they might've implemented a few behind the scenes changes that weren't noted. Mostly the patch deals with issues such as exploits and glitches in multiplayer and zombies, nothing got nerfed this time, which is a pleasant surprise. Anyway, you can check out the full patch notes for yourself below:

PS3 Game Update (1.12) Notes: Jun. 27, 2013

Multiplayer Issues Addressed

  • Addressed an issue reported by the community where camos and reticles would change or disappear.
  • Addressed an issue reported by the community where players could run away with the bomb in a Search and Destroy or Demolition match.
  • Addressed an issue reported by the community where players could become invincible for a period of time.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 Launch Date Pushed Back and Rumours of Apple Exclusivity

Earlier this month I wrote a short article about Edge magazines exclusive preview of the new Plants vs. Zombies title and one of the main points was that the game was slated for a July 18th release, this was also confirmed at the E3 event a couple weeks back. Most fans have been waiting the best part of four years for this sequel and so you can imagine the surprise and disappointment when a tweet from the Plants vs.Zombies team, was posted with the following information. It said that the original stated release date would not be met and that the games launch would take place later in summer but how much later in summer they've not indicated. If this delay wasn't already a slap in the face for us eagerly waiting fans, apparently this wasn't the only revision of the details discussed in the Edge magazine piece, apparently PvZ2 will now not only launch later but it is said to also be an Apple product exclusive, whereas before it was said to be a generic mobile device exclusive.

Microsoft Revise Their DRM and Used Game Policies For Xbox One Console

A little over a week ago at E3 2013 both Microsoft (Xbox One) and Sony (PS4) unveiled their new consoles and while hardware wise there might not be that much of a difference (apparently the PS4 is slightly better), the way each company approached how consumers could use their platforms was like night and day. Microsoft revealed their game plan first (no pun intended XD ) and it couldn't have gone down any worse with it's fan base; a hefty price tag for additional features that most gamers don't care for, a mandatory link up with Xbox servers at least once every 24hrs for all games to continue working (on or offline) and complex restrictions on how gamers could handle their game disks. Well, late last night, Microsoft posted an update on their Xbox website regarding the Xbox One, which was nothing short of an embarrassing U-turn on policies that they were stringently defending, not more than a few days ago. You can head over there to read the entire article in full (link at end of article) but if you just want a quick summary, basically out of the three points I mentioned above, the last two have now been scrapped/altered significantly. I've quoted the changes below for your convenience:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Vengeance DLC (Map Pack 3) - Coming 2nd July [Reveal Trailer Inside]

The third Black Ops 2 DLC comes in the form of 'Vengeance' and will be released on the 2nd of July and as per usual, will appear first on Xbox, then one month after on other platforms. This latest pack contains four new multiplayer maps: Cove, Detour, Rush and Uplink, the last map is in fact a re-make of the popular CoD: Black Ops map, Summit. In addition to those multiplayer maps, there's of course also one new Zombies map, titled as 'Buried', this adventure brings back the four original characters featured in the Tranzit map and has them fighting zombies in an underground Wild West town. But that's not all, this DLC drop will once again come with a new weapon, though instead of being for multiplayer, it's an exclusive to the Zombies game mode. It's come as a bit of surprise to have another new weapon added to the game, let alone one that can only be used in Zombies but apparently Treyarch feel there's enough of a demand for it and so they've introduced the 'Ray Gun Mark II'. It does look pretty cool but what I want to know is, how well does it kill zombies? Anyway, I've embedded the reveal trailer below, so you can see for yourself what the pack has to offer, enjoy.

PS3 To Get Free Trial of Black Ops 2 Revolution DLC, Starts 20th June 2013 *Updated*

Last month Black Ops 2 players on Xbox 360 were granted a free trial of the first map pack DLC, Revolution and this month it's the turn of the PS3 players. Currently it's unclear whether we'll be able to sample everything in the DLC i.e. the multiplayer maps, new multiplayer weapon (the Peacekeeper) and the Zombies map (Die Rise) or just certain parts. Also there's no indication of how long this trial will run for and whether we have to download the entire pack, even if we're only interested in one particular part of the DLC. Either way, the trial starts tomorrow (Thursday 20th June), so we'll find out soon enough, here's hoping we get to try everything ^_^

PlayStation 4 Launch Price and More, Detailed At Sony Press Conference E3 2013

Earlier this week the biggest event in the gaming calendar took place, in the form of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2013. Every year the show is a pretty big affair, with game developers from around the world converging on LA, to pitch and discuss their upcoming releases/projects but this year was just that bit bigger. Even if you don't play videos games that often, it's highly likely that you'll be aware that this year marks the start of the next console war, as both Sony and Microsoft are due to launch new products later this year. We learnt very little about the new PS4 at Sony's February press conference but one could argue it was still better than Microsoft's first press release on the Xbox One in May. Anyway, on the opening day of E3 2013 both companies revealed further details on their new game consoles and one of the main new pieces of information was the launch price of their units. I've provided a brief summary of what Sony talked about at E3 regarding the PS4 including their proposed launch price and I've also embedded the video, just in case you fancy watching the whole thing yourself.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 Coming First To Mobile Devices [Edge Magazine Exclusive Preview Inside]

In a first look exclusive interview with Edge magazine, PopCap have discussed why it's taken soo long for a sequel to the 2009 PC sensation that was Plants vs. Zombies and what we can expect from the new title. The four year hiatus has obviously not gone unnoticed by the studio and while the games title "It's About Time" seemingly pokes fun at the fact, it's actually also the main theme behind the game, that is to say time travelling. The first piece of big news regarding PvZ2 is that it will be coming first and exclusively to mobile devices, PopCap are planning to release it for other platforms in the future but we're not given any sort of schedule. I'm actually really disappointed with this news, I do agree that PvZ was a lot of fun to play on a touch screen device but at the same time I think the PC version was a lot smoother and so that's my platform of choice. The second piece of big news (unfortunately also bad) is that PopCap are releasing PvZ2 as a free-to-play game, couple this with the fact they are now owned by EA and I bet you're starting to have reservations just like I am. Obviously it's slightly unfair to pass judgement before I've played the game but if history has taught us anything, free-to-play does not benefit the gamer and EA makes terrible decisions when publishing games. Anyway, I've linked the article below so if you want to read the whole thing yourself and/or have sneak peak at some of the new plant types and garden arenas, then scroll down for the PDF. For those that just want a quick summary, I'll highlight what I believe to be the important points.

Call of Duty: Ghosts - E3 All Access Event [Gameplay Footage and Analysis Inside]

Yesterday Activision held a special presentation for their upcoming new game, Call of Duty: Ghosts, which felt like a direct follow up to the reveal trailer released a couple weeks back. While most developers are happy enough to be showcasing at the E3 event, Activision decided it wanted to (unofficially) kick off the expo and hosted an 'All Access' event a day before the convention doors opens because they wanted to "bring E3 to our fans" (the ones who couldn't make it).. The whole show lasts for about 30 minutes and you can watch it below, YouTube does require you to log in to view it but if you can't be bothered with that, there are a few other versions floating around, though none as good in terms of visual quality. There's a bit of chatter between the presenters (Jeff Keighley and Justine Ezarik) with the various people from Activision and Infinity Ward but it's mostly introducing or discussing the three video clips. The first two videos show footage taken from separate missions and the third one is sort of a preview of the entire game, I highly suggest you read my summary of the third video (below) before you decide if you want to watch it because some people might consider the clips as campaign spoilers. As per usual I provide a round up summary/analysis after the video, though in all honesty the footage shown is pretty clear cut but if you're still interested in my thoughts, be sure to scroll past the video, enjoy.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time! Reveal Trailer Released [Video and Analysis Inside]

It's been a long four years since the first Plants vs. Zombies game hit shelves but finally the sequel is nearing launch, PopCap have stated a July (2013) release but a solid date has yet to be announced. With a title that is seemingly mocking itself for the ludicrous production time, the game appears to be centred around the aspect of time travelling. You can check out the reveal trailer for yourself below and then if you're interested, I do a personal in depth analysis of the footage, which you can read further down, enjoy.

IGN's Pre-E3 Call of Duty: Ghosts Exclusive Sneak Peak

Earlier today IGN released an article on their exclusive sneak peak at what Activision is planning to show the rest of the world tomorrow, regarding their new game, Call of Duty: Ghosts. There's not a great deal of information to be had, not entirely surprising given it was only meant to be a brief glimpse into the full reveal but I still think the article is worth reading. There are two short video clips to go with the article but these don't really show us anything that we haven't already seen from the reveal trailer and behind the scenes footage. But again if you're interested in hearing what Mark Rubin (first video) and Zach Volker (second video, title image above) have to say, then these will be worth watching to learn a very small amount about the direction they wanted to take the game and some of the new features they've implemented.

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Patch 1.11 Released (Full Details Inside)

Earlier today patch 1.11 for Black Op 2 went live for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, you can read the entire list below. I won't be doing a review of these changes because they're not particularly game changing (a couple of pistols got nerfed), mainly just minor issues that needed fixing or problems that needed cleaning up (mostly stuff for the Zombies).

PS3 Game Update (1.11) Notes: May. 23, 2013

Feature Improvements
  • Improved and expanded who can be the host of a game lobby.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Reveal Trailer Released [Video and Trailer Analysis Inside]

Today at the Microsoft reveal event of the new Xbox console (the 'Xbox One' - summary article coming soon), we were shown the reveal trailer to Call of Duty: Ghosts. During the conference we were also told a few things about the new game, the most noteworthy (though not entirely surprising) points were that it will be running on a new next-gen engine and it is definitely a completely new storyline with fresh characters, one of which is a dog. I'll discuss more about the trailer in my analysis below but something that isn't clearly mentioned/shown in trailer is that the game takes place 10 years after America has been devastated by (an as yet unknown) event. Anyway, I've linked the video below and done a Trailer Analysis afterwards, enjoy.

Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) Teaser Trailer Released and Reveal Date Announced!

Earlier today Sony released a short video on their YouTube channel featuring the upcoming PS4 console. I use the word "featured" pretty loosely though because we don't actually see too much of the thing, just a series of (very close up) images that flash by, imposed on top of a blurry image of the console. To be quite honest there's not really much to the trailer but I think it's purpose wasn't so much to increase peoples awareness/intrigue of their product but rather to draw attention away from Xbox's console reveal, which is taking place tomorrow (21st May). Anyway, I've embedded the video below, so check it out and see if you can make out any details. Also, one other thing, towards the end of the video we're given a date for what I presume to be the actual full reveal of the PS4, mark your calendars for the 10th June.

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Random Character Kit Selector [Beta / Version 1.00]

One of the nice things about ME3 MP is that there are soo many character kits to select from (assuming you've unlocked them all :P), what isn't soo nice is that in any given session, you'll only be able to take a handful of them for a spin. Now I don't know about you guys but whenever I play, it always seems that I end up using the same selection of kits. I guess it's because I play with randoms most of the time and so I don't really want to take something I'm not particularly strong with, just in case they're terrible. This lack of variety can get a bit boring and so I do try and mix it up whenever I can but to be honest I don't want to think about kits, I just want to play a match. I've thought about creating this random character selector for a while but until recently I kept putting it off because A) I'm kinda lazy, B) I hate coding, C) I seriously suck at coding and D) I really hate coding. Anyway, I decided to give it a crack and voilĂ , after many hours of head banging and loud cursing, I've managed to produce something that I believe is fully working. Just to be on the safe side I'm going to call this the Beta version but failing any reports of PC meltdowns, I'll also refer to it as Ver 1.00, if and/or whenever I update it. So yeah, free up some of your brain's processing power and let the RNG Gods decide your fate XD

A Guide On How To Complete Solo Matches On ME3 MP (Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum) - Part 1 of 2

Welcome to my second guide for Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, while I'm still not quite fully rested from writing my very lengthy A Beginners Guide To Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer earlier this year XD, I've decided to create this article to help those that are contemplating doing solo runs. Despite being called a "Beginners Guide", there's lots of information in that other article, which I acquired many months after I started playing, so seasoned veteran or not, I think it'll be worth checking out before continuing with this guide. I personally don't find solo matches all that fun to be honest and the only reason I made an effort to complete them, was so that I could check off the 'Solo Mastery' section in the MP Challenges list. I don't think the default version of the banner is the greatest looking one available (though the Fem-Shep alternative is pretty decent) but some people do view it as the ultimate achievement in MP, unless of course you achieved the 'Best of the Best' banner as a result of completing it. Like all the MP Challenges, the 'Lone Wolf' banner is something that can eventually be achieved if you spend enough time playing the game, how much time you need to spend playing, will of course depend on your level of ability. If you're reading this article, the chances are you're here because you need Solo Mastery in order to obtain the BotB banner or like me, you just wanted to complete the ultimate test of your Mass Effect 3 multiplayer skills. Well, whatever the reason you're here, I hope this article provides you with the advice and guidance that you're searching for :)

New 2013 Call of Duty Title Officially Announced, CoD: Ghosts Coming 5th November [Teaser Trailer and Analysis Inside]

There were several leaks in the last week with many outlets posting various listings on their websites promoting the, as of then, yet to be announced 2013 Call of Duty title. Well as of today, Activision have officially confirmed that the new game will be called Call of Duty: Ghosts, details are very thin on the ground at the moment but I expect you'll soon hear all sorts of rumours from everyone and their mother. As you can see from the title image, a reveal will take place on the 21st of May at the new Xbox 720 reveal event but if you're game enough, many places are already offering you the ability to pre-order. I'm not really sure why you'd want to pre-order something you've only seen a title for but I suppose I'd be lying if I didn't say it's almost a certainty that I myself will be purchasing CoD: Ghosts at some point after launch. Ghosts is confirmed for this generation of consoles, what is less clear is whether it'll be also be available for the next generation of consoles, probably not a concern for most of us XD

Awakened Collector - Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Character Discussion and Review

    Awakened Collector
I can't believe it's been nearly half a year since I wrote my first Mass Effect 3 multiplayer character review and now here I am, about to start my last one! It's a bitter sweet moment, on the one hand I'm now free to leave the world of ME3 MP and start going through my backlog of unplayed games but on the other hand, I am going to miss putting new characters through their paces. There's at least two more ME3 MP articles in the pipeline but those won't be character reviews (obviously) and will probably be my last for the Mass Effect franchise (until ME4), that is unless something major happens in the future for ME3. Anyway, this week I'll be discussing the final Reckoning DLC kit, the Awakened Collector; classified as an Adept and he brings to the fight two new powers in the form of Dark Sphere and Seeker Swarms, with the standard Dark Channel being the third. You know it's sort of funny how things work out, when I first started playing Mass Effect 3 I wasn't big on using powers to rack up kills, preferring instead to just shoot everything with my gun/s. Weeks and months later, I finally got a taste for destroying enemies with crazy exploding power combos and it was good *nods*. These days I can happily go through a match barely shooting my weapon but still doing some serious damage to the enemy in the process. Adepts as a class have been a true surprise to me, I'm not usually into all this science fiction lark but there's just something incredibly satisfying about using Biotics to obliterate enemy spawns :D The question is, does the Awakened Collector increase my options when I'm selecting kits for Biotic Explosions or is he a disappointing dud?

Unlike last weeks character review of the Geth Juggernaut and the Talon Mercenary before him, who both took a bit of time to figure out, I think the Awakened Collector is a much more straightforward kit to play. I'll go into much more detail later on of course but as always, we start by covering the powers. First up is Dark Channel, it's exactly the same on this kit as it is for the others that have access to it, namely the N7 Fury and Asari Huntress Infiltrator (AHI). Just in case you don't know what it does I'll give you a quick run down, basically when you use the power, it will hit an enemy unit with a lingering Biotic field. This field can not be dodged by enemies because it's an instant affect power, it will do steady damage over a set amount of time and best of all, if it kills the afflicted unit, it has the ability to "jump" to a nearby target. By default it's not that lethal (on Gold+) but if you choose to spec it for full damage, it can kill basic troops within a few seconds and it's also great for weakening bosses. If I'm busy clearing up crowds of low level troops I'll usually hit a boss with DC, so that when I'm done dealing with said troops, I can then take on the boss and already have the first layer of defence dealt with i.e. Phantoms and Banshees will have most (if not all) of their Barrier destroyed. DC suffers heavily against shields and isn't soo strong against health either but it is very devastating to Armour and even more so to Barriers. So in light of this, you'll want to strip enemies of their shields before using the power and perhaps land a few shots with your weapon to just speed up the killing of unprotected troops. Unlike other Biotic powers, DC can only act as a primer, that is to say you can detonate it with another Biotic power for a Biotic Explosion but you can't use it to detonate another power for a combo.

New 'Mob of the Dead' Zombies Trailer Released - Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Following on from the initial Uprising DLC reveal trailer and then the behind the scenes video of the new zombies map, Treyarch have released a new trailer, dedicated solely to the 'Mob of the Dead'. In the trailer we are shown some of the new Zombie types (possibly just aesthetically different but who knows?) as well as given glimpses of various locations and features within the new map. There's a couple cool new traps in the form of an acid sprinkler and circular saw blades, then there's at least one new bonus pick up item (I assume dropped by Zombies) and then the trailer ends with a sneak preview of one possible ending for the map. It could be that this new map is the first ever Zombies map with an actual plot line, which if followed all the way to the end, could result in an actual escape from the un-dead! [No more getting bored and committing suicide XD]. Official trailer after the break.

BioWare Asks For Feedback On Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Maps

While this piece of news isn't classified as important, I still think it's worth a mention. As the title of the post indicates, BioWare have created and released a questionnaire on all the maps featured in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. Ever had a complaint and wished to air it to the developers? If yes, well now is your chance to do so. If no, well maybe there are some maps that you think are fantastic and would like more of in any future titles, again now would be a good time to voice your thoughts. Speaking of future titles, I think the main reason behind this survey, is that BioWare are indeed planning and/or currently working on the next Mass Effect game. I might be reading a bit too much into it but I mean, it kinda makes sense, otherwise why else would they care soo much about a game that they've now officially ceased resources for? I've quoted the exact post after the break and that includes the link to where you can take the survey.

    Hello, Mass Effect 3 multiplayers!

Behind the Scenes Video of 'Mob of the Dead' - New Zombies Map (from Pack 2) - Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

In the previous article I shared with you the new trailer for Black Ops 2 Uprising DLC (map pack 2), which contains four new multiplayer maps and one new Zombies map. Following up from this trailer, Xbox have posted a special behind the scenes video, which has developers talking about the new map and what it has to offer. Set on the notorious island of Alcatraz and inside the now defunct prison off the coast of Calfornia, you'll play as one of four new characters as you try and find a way to escape the rock. I'll let you watch the trailer before I list some of the things that I noticed.

The Replacers - Uprising DLC Trailer - Map Pack 2 - Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2

If you're starting to get tired of the maps on Black Ops 2, you'll be glad to hear that map pack two is on it's way. Dubbed 'Uprising', it will contain 4 new multiplayer maps (Magma, Encore, Vertigo and Studio) and 1 new Zombie map, called 'Mob of the Dead'. In this funny new trailer featuring the popular 'Replacer' character and his new partner, you don't really get to see much of the new maps, just some scenes flashing by quickly near the end of the video but it's still definitely worth checking out. Apparently one of the new multiplayer maps (Studio) is a remake of the popular Black Ops Firing Range map but until it's released we won't know how similar it will play, if at all. If you want to learn a bit more about the new zombies map, check out this other article for a behind the scenes special on Mob of the Dead video.

Geth Juggernaut - Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Character Discussion and Review

    Geth Juggernaut
The penultimate new kit from the Reckoning DLC is the Geth Juggernaut and he might just be the most unique character ever to be introduced to the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. If you've played online at all since said DLC went live, I'm willing to bet that you've already seen quite a few Geth Juggernauts in action and will know what makes him soo "special". On the off chance you're one of the very few people who don't yet know, the GJ is the only character in the game that can not be sync-killed! This means he won't be picked up by Banshees/Atlases, stabbed by Phantoms, eaten by Praetorians or slammed by Brutes/Scions. Funnily enough the title "Juggernaut" is actually a pretty accurate description of the character itself, he's nearly twice as tall as any of the human kits and moves as slow as an elderly Krogan, the only discrepancy is the fact that depending on how you spec him, he's not really that tanky. Speaking of Krogans, the GJ moves even slower than the Krogan Warlord and also can't vault or use cover. The Geth Juggernaut brings two new powers to the game: Hex Shield and Siege Pulse, with the existing Geth Turret making up the third. Unfortunately like last weeks character, the Talon Mercenary, the Geth Juggernaut is one of those kits that the majority of players (that I've witnessed), don't quite seem to know how to effectively utilise his skill sets. Readers of previous reviews will know my views on slow moving characters but it might surprise you to hear that despite the fact the GJ moves at a snails pace, I managed to have a bit of fun while testing him out.

I'll get around to explaining in more detail later on but as always, I'll begin by covering the powers. First off is the Hex Shield, as the name suggests it's a deployable shield that takes the shape of a hexagon (i.e. it's six sided), I believe it's based on the ones that were in ME1 campaign. By default it's pretty durable (at 2000 health points) and will soak up a fair amount of damage before it break, it's as tall as the Geth Juggernaut and is just wide enough to block any shots fired directly at him. The Hex Shield should block all incoming enemy ordinance, whether it's small arms fire from foot soldiers or power attacks from bosses, I think it also stops grenades but those tend to bounce around after landing, so there's always the chance it can still hit you. Currently I've specced my Hex Shield with: Pulse, Duration and Damage Synergy. I think picking Shield Strength is unnecessary because the cooldown time is pretty fast, so if I need another it's not that big a deal to plonk a new one down. While the Pulse evolution might not be really damaging (400 at base value), it does have it's uses, for example if you start to get swarmed you can back up and place the shield, the electric pulse that is then generated can stun several enemies and buy you that extra second or so to recover. On smaller maps and in particular at choke points, you could spam the Hex Shield to take advantage of the electric pulse, if you've got a low enough cooldown time it's actually pretty good for keeping small crowds of enemies pinned down.

Talon Mercenary - Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Character Discussion and Review

    Talon Mercenary
And so we reach the half way mark, three Reckoning DLC character kits reviewed and three more to go, well technically two after today but you know what I mean lol This weeks article is on the Talon Mercenary, classified as an Engineer, he brings to the fight three brand new powers in the form of Cain Trip Mines, Armour Piercing Arrows and Concussive Arrows. In another first for ME3 MP, every single one of his powers are based on grenade count, so each time you use a power it will consume a grenade (and of course you can only carry a limited number). If you read last weeks character review of the Krogan Warlord, you'll know that he's a melee centric character and that most of your damage output will come from charging his hammer with powers then releasing them via heavy melee. Well if you enjoyed that style of play, I think you're gonna like the Talon Mercenary but unfortunately if you didn't like it that much, this guy might not be your cup of tea either. But having said that, unlike the KW, the TM wasn't designed with purely CQC engagements in mind, I think his powers are just as powerful at point blank range as they are from across the map (though considerably less reliable). Due to the stupid button mapping (and lack of custom options), I'm generally not a big fan of any attacks or character kits that require me to release control of the right stick and dash button more often than not, so at first glance I already have my reservations about the TC. But I've been pleasantly surprised with one or two character reviews in the past, so the question is, does the Talon Mercenary join these select few or does he get dumped on my ever growing pile of "meh" kits?

As always we begin with a brief analysis of the powers. The Cain Trip Mines are exactly what it says on the label, they're placeable mines that detonate once an enemy has interrupted the trip laser and they seriously cane anything that gets caught in the blast radius :P If I'm not mistaken they are the most damaging of any of the explosive based powers currently available in MP, by default each mine has a generous impact radius of 5 meters and does a whopping 1200 points to health, 1800 points to Shields/Barriers and 2700 to Armour! Both the damage and radius of the mines can be increased fairly significantly and if you then factor in the potential for additional damage bonuses via the kits passives, you're looking at some crazy killing potential. You can plant up to three mines at any one time and they'll stay active until an enemy triggers it to go off or you place a fourth mine, which will then cause the first planted mine to explode on it's own. The mines are particularly useful for locking down choke points on a map, doorways and narrow corridors in particular make for excellent mine fields and if you place all three of the mines a couple metres apart, theoretically nothing but a top tier boss should make it through alive (though heavily weakened).

No More Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Balance Changes (Officially Confirmed)

Last week I informed you that Mass Effect 3 Weekend Operations were officially confirmed to be altogether finished, in that same article I predicted that the end might also be nigh, for the weekly balance changes made to multiplayer. Well yesterday, a BioWare developer officially posted on the multiplayer forums and proved that my guess was indeed accurate, there will be no more balance changes for ME3 MP. I've quoted the exact post below for you to read yourself:

Hey everyone, I regret to announce that we will no longer be releasing any more balance updates. There are many things we wish we had time to fix and improve, but as Jonathan Warner mentioned in Bioware’s blog post here, the team is moving on to new and exciting projects.

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Is Officially Winding Down [Updated]

It is with regret that I must inform you that there will not be any more Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Weekend events. Most of us already guessed/assumed that this was the case when Operation: Lodestar went live a couple weeks back but I know a lot of other people were holding out hope, that there might just be a chance the developers would change their minds. Well in an official BioWare announcement today, it was confirmed unequivocally that there won't be any further organised weekend challenges but the post did go on to say that the multiplayer itself would continue as normal. The messages are mostly clear cut but I do provide my own personal mini analysis of it at the end of this article, if you're interested in my thoughts.

The image that I've displayed was released by BioWare last week, I was planning to discuss it in a special article on my time playing ME3 MP but at the moment I'm not sure when I'll be able to get started on that. In any case I think it suits this article very well, it's actually quite interesting to see the numbers that have been divulged and in some cases rather surprising, I never realised the mission fail rate was soo high! Anyway it's all in the picture, so there's no need for me to repeat any of the figures, just be sure to click on it to get the enlarged version.

    Hi Everyone,

Krogan Warlord - Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Character Discussion and Review

    Krogan Warlord
In this third character review of the new Reckoning DLC kits, I'll be discussing the Krogan Warlord, classified as a Sentinel, he brings to the fight the standard Tech Armour and a great big *censor beep* hammer! If you read my previous character reviews of the Cabal Vanguard and Alliance Infiltration Unit (AIU), you'll know that both kits were very mobile and agile, able to traverse maps stealthily and quickly strike at unsuspecting foes. The Krogan Warlord's playstyle on the other hand is about as different as you could get, he's big, lumbering and is about as subtle as a, well, as a sledgehammer [ :P ] Regular readers will again also recall that I'm not a huge fan of slow moving characters because they just don't suit my preferred style of play, that is to say, speed and aggression. To make matters worse he can't take cover or jump over it, combine this with the fact he's about a good half metre taller than any of the current Krogan characters and you can probably guess my thoughts about him already. But obviously I still put the guy through his paces, else this review would be as short as his temper and not particularly detailed lol. The question is, was he good enough to become one of my regular kits or would he simply make me rage?

So let's get started, first up as per usual, a breakdown of the powers. Well the Tech Armour is nothing special, it's the same as any TA for any of the other Sentinels, once activated it stays on until you decide other wise. While it's active you get a damage reduction from all incoming enemy fire but at the cost of your power's recharging at a slower rate, by default these figures are -35% and +50%, respectively. For the most part I never detonate TA once I activate it, even though it has a pretty wide blast radius and can do a decent bit of damage if you choose to invest extra points into it. A little known fact about detonating TA, is that the force generated by the explosion is usually enough to stagger a Phantom, which can be a life saver if you get caught by surprise. Having said this, if you're reckless enough to get close to an enemy unit that can sync kill, you're either prepared to deal with the threat or have a death wish. Until the Krogan Warlord, I've not really had a reason to invest any further than into the first three ranks of TA but I found that the bonus power damage at rank 5 is very complimentary to the kits offensive powers.

Alliance Infiltration Unit (AIU) - Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Character Discussion and Review

    AIU
This weeks character review will be on the Alliance Infiltration Unit or more commonly referred to as the AIU, hailing from the Infiltrator class (obviously lol), this kit takes the bodily form of a female robot (which you might recognise if you played the SP). First impressions of the AIU is that she's a pretty mobile character by having access to a slick forward and backward flip that can quickly take you away from danger, on top of this she's also got a couple fast and vicious melee moves to keep the enemies at arms length. Now in stark contrast to last weeks character, the Cabal Vanguard and in fact every other new Reckoning DLC kit, she only has one new power.  As with all Infiltrators she gets the standard Tactical Cloak and to go with that she has Snap Freeze, then of course the new addition to multiplayer, Repair Matrix. If you've browsed the ME3 MP section of the BioWare Social Network at all in the last couple weeks, you'll know how much of a crap storm this new power has stirred up amongst the "OMG soo OP, Nerf, Nerf, Nerf, Now!!!" crew *smh*. I'll discuss more about this when I go through the powers in detail, a little further down this article.

Readers of previous character reviews will know that I do like my Infiltrators and that I think they are the most versatile class in ME3. There's already a great variety of character kits within the class but everytime BioWare announce they're releasing a new one, I pay that bit more attention to what they're saying. I first saw the AIU in action during the live stream that BioWare hosted before the new DLC went live and at the time I didn't really understand what Repair Matrix was (despite playing SP) and so the only thing I really took from the demonstration was that she had Snap Freeze. There's only soo much you can glean about a character kit until you actually play with it but the impression I got was; damage bonus from TC and Snap Freeze de-buff implies a CQC playstyle, almost certainly with a Shotgun. Well, I've since spent a lot of time playing with the AIU but the question is, does she follow in the footsteps of her peers or will she be left out in the cold? [Cus you know, Snap Freeze... oh forget it XD]

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Balance Changes - 12th March 2013 (Full List Inside)

I don't usually post Mass Effect 3's weekly balance changes but I think today's set of changes definitely warrant a mention because for one, there's a lot of them and two, it confirms my prediction that last weeks special week-long operation was indeed probably the last ever :( Most of the changes revolve around buffing various components of the new Reckoning DLC kits bar one character. No prizes for guessing correctly who got the nerf sledgehammer; if you're a fan of the Alliance Infiltration Unit (AIU) be prepared for a tough read because she took a major beat down. After the list I'll discuss some of the bigger changes and provide my own personal opinions in general, on what has come to pass in today's "balancing". (Full list after the break)

Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Patch 1.08 Released (Full Details Inside)

It's funny but I was thinking the other day that Black Ops 2 was probably due for a game update soon and today we get it lol. Anyway, the video talks about two or three topics regarding what's been nerfed/changed but you'll have to read the full list below to learn the rest, there's a lot more than three by the way. In the remainder of the video, David Vonderhaar (game design director) talks about the upcoming CoD championships (the million dollar tournament) and other eSport events that are taking place. If you're a follower of eSports, you might be interested to see some of the teams that have already secured an invite to the CoD championship event taking place in April this year. In other Black Ops 2 news, apparently micro purchases (for real cash) will soon be available in game and the popular Nuketown 2025 map, could soon be made available to everyone for free but as with any DLC, Xbox 360 would get the release before other platforms.

Cabal Vanguard - Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Character Discussion and Review

    Cabal Vanguard
As you might've heard by now, the last multiplayer offering for Mass Effect 3 has been released in the form of Reckoning DLC and with it came six brand new character kits (one for each class). Originally I had planned to have this first review out earlier this week but because of the special week long Operation: Lodestar, that BioWare sprung on us a few days ago, I've been too busy playing XD Anyway, I've since completed all the challenge requirements and earned all three of my Commendation packs, so now it's time to get back to work and deliver what I promised. Don't worry I won't be reviewing all the kits in this single article, firstly because that would result in a stupidly long read and secondly I still haven't fully tested out all the new characters. At first I was planning on reviewing all the kits in the order that I unlocked them but for one reason or another I inadvertently spent more time using certain kits over the position that I acquired them. However the first character I'll be reviewing was in fact the first new kit that I unlocked, I acquired the Cabal Vanguard in the Gift Pack that was distributed to all players when the new DLC went live. After the Cabal I'll continue to work backwards down the list of classes, so the next review will be of the new Infiltrator kit, then the Sentinel etc.

Righto, so now you're up to speed with my timetable, let's get started. The Cabal Vanguard is the first (and last) Female Turian in ME3 multiplayer and not only is she the first of her kind in MP but she's also the first Vanguard in her class to not have the traditional Biotic Charge as part of her power set [*gasp* lol]. In it's place she has instead Poison Strike, which is then accompanied by Nightshade Blades and Biotic Focus. When I first saw the Cabal Vanguard in action, during the live streaming that Bioware hosted before the Reckoning DLC was launched, my interest was peaked because she's very mobile and has one of my favourite in game abilities, teleportation. Readers of previous character reviews will know that I prefer to play aggressively, hitting enemies fast and hard, which usually means using characters that can get around the map quickly and who are lethal in CQC. The N7 Fury and N7 Slayer can both use teleportation to pass through walls and attack unsuspecting foes before making a speedy exit via the same path, to avoid any potential retaliation. The first thing I noticed when using the CV is that while she can traverse the map, I believe slightly faster than the Fury and Slayer, she's lacking when it comes to killing enemies quickly.

Mass Effect 3 Special Week-Long Operation: Lodestar (5th-10th March 2013) [Updated]

As you might be aware Mass Effect 3 will become one year old in a short while and to celebrate BioWare have decided to give the fans a special event. In the first extended operation of it's kind (five days long), there are tiered challenges and the opportunity to unlock three Commendation packs. This means that you could earn three promotional weapons by successfully completing all the individual goals! Unfortunately the wording of the operation hints, to me at least, that these operations may soon be drawing to a close and that active involvement by the developers on multiplayer will now cease entirely. You can read the full details below:

    Operation: LODESTAR (Mar 5th-10th)
We are coordinating the largest-scale attack in the brief history of this war. N7 unit actions will pave the way for resistance and conventional forces trying to retake the population centers of our homeworlds. There is no retreat. When an objective is finished or a target destroyed, you will immediately focus on the next. Our assets will provide cover to network ships that will update your targets in real-time. Rally points are at your disposal in the event that all space assets meet with catastrophic casualties. From there, you will fight as your CO sees fit or until further orders arrive.

Mass Effect 3 Reckoning DLC Released (Items Listed)

Yesterday night the last piece of Mass Effect 3 multiplayer DLC: Reckoning, was finally available to all platforms (European PC and PS3 gamers had to wait longest). If you haven't got around to downloading it yet, what are you waiting for? As with all previous multiplayer DLC it's FREE! Now if that wasn't already enough good news, Bioware have also issued every player with a Gift pack in the multiplayer store but these won't last forever, so don't leave it too long before you log on. Just in case you're wondering what comes in this last DLC pack, I'll break it down for you, there are 6 new character kits, 7 new weapons, 2 new pieces of equipment and 5 new weapon mods.

For fans of my Character Reviews (on the ME3 page), you might be happy to hear that I intend to revive the series for these new kits and will hopefully start my first write up this weekend/early next week (assuming that I unlock any of the new characters and have enough time to test them out).

I'm about to list the names of the new items and their rarity status, so if you want them to remain a surprise and/or aren't ready for a slight shock, don't carry on reading...
