PlayStation 4 Launch Dates Officially Announced by Sony

Late last night Sony made the first move in announcing launch date details for the next generation of gaming consoles, it's been common knowledge for sometime that both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One would be on sale in the run up to Christmas of this year but until now, neither has provided a concrete date. Sony have stated that the PS4 will go on sale from the 15th November in North America and from the 29th November in Europe, these are currently the only two dates confirmed but I assume in the coming months, we'll get more details for other countries/continents.

In the same statement, Sony also outlined some additional information regarding the release of their new machine, claiming that owners of certain PS3 games would be able to upgrade to the PS4 version for a discounted price, that is if they had decided to upgrade their hardware from a PS3 to a PS4. A small gesture but a welcome one and something I imagine would make a section of gamers be more inclined to invest in the new console, knowing they wouldn't have to shell out a mini fortune just to continue playing their favourite new titles.

And finally, Sony also said that to coincide with the PS4 launching, they're going to be dropping the price of the PS Vita, its latest hand held gaming device. Sales of purpose built mobile gaming devices have been in decline over recent years, mainly due to the rise in popularity of smart phones and tablets, which can provide an equal level of entertainment while having the capability of carrying out several other functions. This price drop should mean more PS Vita units are sold and if it truly is the ultimate companion for the PS4, as previously stated by Sony, could actually assist in sales of the new console itself.

Are you planning on getting a PS4 on day one? Let me know below :)
