Journey To Platinum - Call of Duty: Ghosts [Part 1 ~ Single Player Trophies]

For some reason this year I’ve been cleaning up my Call of Duty trophies, as of writing this article, Ghosts will actually be the third CoD I’ve plat’d within a year :O I always complete the single player trophies in the year of launch but never really work on the multiplayer ones until later. Last year I finally got my platinum for Modern Warfare 2 by completing the remaining Spec Ops missions, then over the last couple months, I decided to go back and work on Ghosts and Black Ops. I have a feeling before the end of the year, I’ll be adding MW3 to my list as well XD Anyway, why is this all relevant? Well, to be honest it isn’t really (lol) but what I will say is, I think that Ghosts is probably one of the more fun platinum’s to earn and also, possibly one of the easier ones to, at least where single player trophies are concerned. The multiplayer trophies are still fairly taxing to earn but not anywhere near as hard as the ones in previous CoD games.

------------------

Ghost Stories - Escape. (Complete "Ghost Stories" on any difficulty.)

Spatial Awareness - Kill your first enemy in the Call of Duty® Ghosts campaign.

Brave New World - Rendez-vous in Fort Santa Monica. (Complete "Brave New World" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Liberty Wall - Take down both attack helicopters.

Not sure if your allies are capable of taking down the enemy helos but just to be safe, try and do it as fast as you can. Just lead your target and then guide the missile in with the laser, as long as you get a direct hit, the helicopter will come down. I managed to do this on my veteran run but you can do it on whatever difficulty, the choppers can do a lot of damage so make use of cover and only stick your head out when you’re about to fire a shot.

------------------

No Man's Land - Make it to San Diego. (Complete "No Man's Land" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Blimey O'Riley - Pounce on 10 enemies whilst controlling Riley

At a couple points in the campaign, you'll be given direct control over Riley via a tablet and it's during these parts that you'll need to rack up the required kills. It's actually a pretty easy trophy to earn but the chances are you'll miss it during your first play through because you don't always need to kill the enemies that you come across. Your first few kills will mandatory for level progression but after that it's up to you, how many and who you choose munch on. Just remember to pick targets that are standing alone and always attack from behind, this ensures that you won't alert other enemies, which will make your task simpler.

------------------

Struck Down - Find Ajax. (Complete "Struck Down" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Waste not - Every shot with the remote sniper hits a person or vehicle.

Another easy trophy to earn and one that I’m rather surprised that I didn't unlock during my first play through. The remote sniper is basically a point and shoot weapon, it doesn't have idle sway or recoil and you don't even need to worry about holding your breath. All you need to do is make sure a target is in your cross hairs before firing, some targets will occasionally dart from cover to cover but the majority of them are stationary, so it really isn't that challenging to get 100% accuracy.

------------------

Homecoming - Defend LA. (Complete "Homecoming" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Go Ugly Early - A-10 strafe 50 enemies

A simple trophy and one that you'll probably get naturally, just pick out the big groups of enemies and watch the A-10s obliterate them. Not sure if difficulty affects how many enemies spawn but I’d assume there should still be enough for the trophy regardless.

------------------

Legends Never Die - Hunt down Almagro. (Complete "Legends Never Die" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

It Came from Below! - Kill 6 enemies with the knife while underwater in "Legends Never Die".

A somewhat annoying trophy to earn and even more so the higher the difficulty you're playing on. I missed this on my first play through and then I gave up after several attempts during my veteran playthrough because it just wasn't happening. Basically after you are told to kill your first guy from under the water, you'll have to manually target and hunt down others by yourself. The process of knifing an enemy while submerged is easy enough and your character actually holds their breath for a generous amount of time, the problem is the enemies. They move around and will often climb out of the water all together, not to mention you'll be shot at during the whole thing. Take my advice and just re-play this level on the lowest difficulty setting; it will save you time and a considerable amount of frustration.

------------------

Federation Day - Gather intel on Rorke. (Complete "Federation Day" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Sleeping Beauty - Kill the sleeping guy in face down rappel section

During a section of the campaign you'll be rappelling headfirst down the side of a building, as you make your way down, you'll be told take out a few enemies standing on the balconies below you. The guy you need to slot for the trophy isn't on any of the balconies but is in fact inside the building itself, he's a little bit tricky to find because the room is dark but if you just take your time to scan each floor as you move down, you should be able to spot him.

------------------

Carbon Faceprint - Catch Photocopier with your face

I earned this trophy naturally during my first play through, as I imagine a few people probably will. Basically during one of the rappelling sections, an enemy will knock a photocopier out the window directly above you, if you do nothing to avoid it; the thing should smack you square in the face. Unfortunately you will have to restart the check point after getting hit but you won't need to replay too much to get back on track. If you happen to dodge the photocopier for whatever reason, just choose to restart the last check point and position yourself under the photocopier when you see it start to protrude from the window edge.

----------------

Birds of Prey - Capture Rorke (Complete "Birds of Prey" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Burn Baby Burn - Destroy 80 Fuel containers.

During one of the missions you'll take control of an attack helicopter and will be tasked with taking out various enemy units ranging from ground infantry to air support. I managed to get this done during my veteran play through and it wasn't actually that bad because the gas canisters are littered all over the place and total more than 80, it just takes a bit time to find them. Initially you should take out the targets that pose the most threat i.e. SAM and RPG sites, just so you can move about a bit more safely.

Once you've neutralised those locations, just fly around the map spamming your rockets at anything that resembles a proper structure, which is where most of the canisters are. Rooftops usually have bunches of canisters, so that's where you should start, after that just take your time sweeping the ground. I recommend leaving a couple enemy units alive whilst you search for the canisters because if you take out all targets, the mission will progress and you'll have to restart it to have another go.

------------------

The Hunted - Make it out alive (Complete "The Hunted" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Jungle Ghosts - Finish the mission without breaking stealth.

One of the more slightly tricky trophies to earn, though you could say it's more of a trial error sort of thing. Basically once the mission starts you can't alert any enemy troops as you try to regroup with your team. I managed to do this on my vet run; it's mostly a simple task as you're actively trying to avoid confrontation, though there are a couple occasions where you might need to kill enemies. My tactic was to keep left the entire way as I found this to be the least populated route, always remain crouched/prone and take your time while moving. Use the wrist sensor as an early warning system of nearby enemies but be sure to use your own eyes to track their actual movement direction, this is very important. It will more than likely take you several attempts before you’re finally successful but the enemies will always appear and walk in the same places, so just memorise their patterns.

If you need to kill enemies, I recommend a mid-range silenced headshot, you could go in for a melee kill but if you get spotted and the enemy calls out, you'll need to restart the whole mission. Meeting up with your team is however, only half the mission, you'll now need to travel with them to a different location and not break stealth along the way. This bit is fortunately very easy, just do as you're told and you should be fine. There is just one little section at the very end of the mission, which you'll need to be wary off and could cost you the trophy if you mess up. After you exit the tall grass and head up a small hill, you should head for the large boulder straight in front of you and go prone as fast as you can. The reason for this is that, shortly after the whole team assembles on top of the hill, an enemy helo will fly pass and if it spots you, this counts as breaking stealth and you'll have to re-do the whole mission.

------------------

Clockwork - Hack the system (Complete "Clockwork" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Deep Freeze - Drop 8 vehicles into ice holes.

A very simple trophy and one that I think most people will get naturally. Towards the end of one of the missions, you'll be manning a grenade turret on top of a truck that is travelling along a frozen river. All you need to do is aim slightly ahead of an enemy vehicle and when the grenade explodes, it should make a crater in the ice, which the vehicles will then fall into. There will be much more than eight enemy vehicles chasing you, so as long as you make an effort to lead your shots, the trophy should pop before long.

------------------

Atlas Falls - Distract the Federation Fleet. (Complete "Atlas Falls" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Grindin' - Completing the console section on first attempt.

A simple trophy that you can easily get in a single try. During one of the missions you'll be told to man the controls of a pressure regulator system, all you need to do is keep the line within the boundaries displayed on screen. I managed to complete this on the first try during both my runs, so I really can’t say if you’ll be able to do a restart checkpoint if you happen to mess it up.

------------------

Piece of cake - Storm the common room and kill everyone without taking damage on veteran.

This trophy isn’t hard per se but does require a small amount of planning and luck. During the mission where you attack the oil rig, you’ll eventually come across a room with double doors that are shut, which you’ll be prompted to breach by using a door charge. After the doors are open, DO NOT enter the room, the easiest and safest way to earn this trophy is by standing outside. The first thing I did was to chuck in a flash bang and then followed it up with a couple grenades, I aimed one near the front and the other as far back as I could manage. Most of the enemies will be taking cover, so just because you can’t see them, don’t assume they aren’t there.

Continue flashing and using grenades until you run out but if possible don’t blindly throw all of them into the room at the same time, listen out for enemy voices and track the direction of incoming fire, this will help to reveal some enemies locations. Hopefully your ‘nades will take care of most of the enemies but now you have to manually shoot the rest of them with your weapon. Your teammates will occasionally take out one or two of the enemies but for the majority, it will be up to you. It’s best to take your time with this trophy, the game will automatically progress once all the enemies are dead, so you’ll know when you’ve cleared out the room.

You can use the contextual lean to try and peek into the room but you need to be careful, it isn’t exactly the fastest mechanic, I personally just aimed down sights and strafed. Don’t wait for enemies to start shooting before you return fire; if you’re looking into the room you should already be pre-firing, even it’s just spraying randomly. It’s worth noting that your bullets (and also the enemies) can penetrate surfaces, so don’t get complacent, cover isn’t always safe, use this to your advantage and aim some rounds into obvious hiding locations. If you get hit, just restart the check point and try again.

------------------

Into The Deep - Destroy the enemy ship (Complete "Into The Deep" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

David & Goliath - Take down the LCS on the first go.

Again I managed to do this on my first attempt during both my playthroughs. Not much to say really, just aim the missile/torpedo thing where the big red patch is, simple.

------------------

End of the Line - Storm the factory (Complete "End of the Line" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Cog in the machine - Kill 5 enemies without being detected before infiltrating Black Zone.

A fairly simple trophy that I completed naturally, just take your time to line up head shots and listen to what your allies are telling you to do.

------------------

Sin City - Plan your next move (Complete "Sin City" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Jack-pot - Destroy 21 slot machines.

This trophy was a bit annoying to complete, not because it was hard but because it’s a little bit obscure. After you’ve escaped and hid from the oncoming enemies, you eventually come across a large hall, which you’ll be looking down on from the top of some steps. Enemies will turn up and you’ll have to kill them all, once you’ve dropped them, head to bottom of the stairs and look for the slot machines slightly to the right, you should notice that there are two types. The smaller darker coloured ones and the bigger lighter coloured ones, the ones you want are the ones where you can actually break the screen. Once you’ve identified the machines that you want, just head up and down the rows, putting a few rounds into each one, in my game some of the screen were already broken from the firefight but I still shot them up, just in case.

After you’ve slotted [ :P ] all the ones in this hall, you’ll realise that you still don’t have the trophy, that’s because there aren’t 21 of the slot machines you want in the hall. You’ll need to progress a little further before you can find more, fortunately they aren’t far away from where you are, just follow your team until you reach another flight of stairs. When you’re at the top of the stairs, look straight ahead and you should see a few more of the slot machines that you need to destroy, simply aim your weapon and … you get the idea. If you reach a part of the mission where someone is holding up a gate for you to go under, you’ve gone too far, DO NOT continue, instead double back and look for those stairs. If you accidentally pass through like I did, you’ll need to either restart the mission or come back and do it via mission select.

------------------

All or Nothing - Gather the troops (Complete "All or Nothing" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

End of your rope - Cut a grappling hook rope with enemy on it.

When the aircraft carrier you’re on gets attacked, at one point you’ll be told that enemies are trying to board using grappling hooks, just walk towards the railing and find one that has an enemy climbing up it. When you’ve got one, just stand next to it and hit the on screen prompt, the trophy should pop shortly after. If the enemy happens to get killed before you successfully cut the rope, there should be several other grapples that you can target.

------------------

Severed Ties - Destroy the Federation's satellite array (Complete "Severed Ties" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Fly-by-wire - Take out helicopters with remote missile 3/3.

This trophy is done when you’re attacking the satellite array inside a tank, the helicopters will arrive at different stages of the mission, so don’t worry if you only see one or two. The easiest way to ensure your remote missile takes out the helicopter is by using its self-destruct feature, just fly the missile as close to the enemy helo as you can and detonate it. The blast radius and damage is pretty generous, so as long as you get your timing right, you should always get the kill. The trophy requires three out of three successful kills, so be sure to pay attention, the helos are big targets but do move around quite fast, lead your shots and if possible, position your tank so that they are flying towards you.

------------------

LOKI - Commandeer the enemy space station. (Complete "Loki" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

They look like ants - Destroy all enemy ground targets and kill no allies with the rods.

This was the last trophy between me and the platinum for CoD: Ghosts and while it wasn’t easy to achieve, it wasn’t particularly hard either. It’s basically one of those trial and error trophies, which occurs during an event mid-way into a mission, so if you mess it up, you’ve got to restart the level and progress to that one spot, over and over again. You can attempt this trophy on whatever difficulty you like and by all means, attempt it during your normal runs but if you fail to get it first time (more than likely) my advice is to just come back after and play it via mission select on recruit difficulty.

The trophy is earned during the space mission and as I said above, unfortunately you’ll need to play more or less until the end of the level before you get your shot at it. Once you’re at the console and controlling the kinetic weapon, the game will get you to target enemy ground units. To earn the trophy you must meet two sets of criteria, the first is to take out every enemy that is highlighted on screen and the second is that you must not injure any friendly forces. It’s worth noting that you can restart the console section check point at any time before you’ve completed the all the objectives, so if you think you missed a couple enemies or accidentally took out a few friendlies, just manually choose to reset.

The enemies will be presented to you in three separate stages, the first is simple enough, there are no friendlies for you to accidentally hit so just make sure your target marker covers all the enemies before firing. The second and third stage is when friendly units will be shown on screen, they are also highlighted so you can distinguish between the two forces and it’s during these stages that you will need to aim your shots very carefully. As far as I know you have an unlimited amount of shots but there is a brief re-fire delay, so even though you can use extra rounds to mop up stragglers, you’ll need to be quick about it.

I’m not 100% sure but I’m fairly certain that the target marker is not an accurate representation of the weapons blast radius and by this I mean that, some shots will spill over the margins, whereas others can fall short. So my best advice here is to leave a buffer between the enemy units you’re targeting and the friendlies closest to them, just in case. For whatever reason, sometimes there will be enemies that manage to survive the weapons impact, despite clearly being within the designated blast radius but as I mentioned above, you can fire off extra shots to finish them off though you’ll need to react quickly to ensure you still get the trophy.

------------------

The Ghost Killer - Confront Rorke (Complete "The Ghost Killer" on any difficulty.)

Part of the story, so can’t be missed, just follow the games direction.

------------------

Tickets please - Shoot the grapple guys off the side of the train.

This trophy was very annoying for me to get and took quite a lot of trial and error. Basically when you’re on the train, you’ll eventually get to a section where enemies will climb onto a carriage roof using grapple hooks. There are four enemies in total, two on each side but they’ll climb up at different times. The trophy doesn’t specify how many enemies you need to kill but from my experience, it’s impossible to kill all four and apparently one isn’t enough. No matter how fast I made my way over to the carriage they were climbing, I could not kill the first two enemies quickly enough, so I instead concentrated my efforts on the other two.

Get over to the carriage as quick as you can and either head left or right, then immediately start firing at the location where the second climber will appear. As soon as he’s dead, you need to switch your aim to the opposite side where the other enemy will almost be on top of the roof. It’s all about timing and precision, you need to be both fast and accurate. It probably didn’t help that I was playing on veteran but I stuck at it and eventually got the trophy. If you miss your opportunity, just restart the check point and have another bash at it.

------------------

Audiophile - Collect all 18 Rorke files.

You can spend a lot of time searching for these files or you can follow a video guide on YouTube, though to be fair, I don’t think there’s any mission where the file is particularly tricky to retrieve. It’s worth noting that you can keep track of which levels do and don’t contain a file, just pause the game and it should say in the bottom right; it will also indicate whether or not you’ve found it. If you’ve already cleared the campaign on veteran, you can check out which files you still need to find, through the single player main menu. As far as I know, the audio files carry across playthroughs and are not affected by difficulty or if you used mission select.

------------------

You've earned it - Earn the mask. Finish the campaign on Veteran.

Does this even need explaining? lol You can play through from start to finish or complete each mission individually via mission select.

---------

Like I said at the start I think the campaign for CoD: Ghosts was actually pretty fun and the trophy list for the single player isn't very hard at all. There are one or two that might require a couple attempts but for the rest it's just a matter of being patient and playing cautiously.

What did you think of campaign? Let me know below :)
