There will NOT be a Campaign / Single Player in CoD: Black Ops 3 on Last Gen Consoles - AV News Drop

Activision have recently posted on their Call of Duty website that there will be NO single player mode (i.e. story campaign) for last generation console releases of Black Ops 3. Players who opt to buy the PS3 or Xbox 360 version of CoD: Black Ops 3, will only have access to the Multiplayer and Zombies game modes. 

"The Black Ops 3 PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will feature Multiplayer and Zombies gameplay only, not Campaign. The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware."

It should be noted however, these two modes will not be exactly the same as the current gen versions, with Activision stating that some features, such as the new eSports facilities and mp weapon Paint Shop, will not be available either.

"Fans should note that other features built to leverage the next generation hardware like the new Weapon Paint Shop and the new suite of eSports tools will only be available on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC."

In light of the removal of single player from last gen versions of the Black Ops 3, Activition have proposed a new recommended retail price (RRP) for the title, dropping it to $49, which in my opinion is not much of a cut at all. To try and justify the still fairly high price tag, DLC codes for the original Black Ops game will be added to each copy of last gen versions of CoD: Black Ops 3.

"The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be available for a suggested retail price of $49.99 and include a bonus download for the original Call of Duty: Black Ops (bonus download availability may vary by region), the game that launched this series."

The first Black Ops game can be bought used (and indeed new) from many places at a very cheap price, so I personally wouldn't be swayed by that incentive. I hate to say it but this game is probably the first of many big releases to effectively cancel last gen version, so if you were looking forward to all that Black Ops 3 has to offer, it may be time to finally take that upgrade step...
